The Mavis Winkle’s Way

Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub opened its doors in 2001 after a trip to Ireland brought inspiration. Owners Bill and Mary Jo Demopoulos returned from their vacation aching to get back to the Emerald Isle. Instead of returning, they decided to bring the Emerald Isle to Northeast Ohio.

The popular Twinsburg Irish Pub grew from there. The desire to offer a fun loving, casual dining experience while serving excellent food at moderate pricing pushed the Demopoulos’ to create Mavis Winkle’s.

Taking notes from traditional pubs back in Ireland, the couple wanted their Irish bar and restaurant to be a place where any age group could participate. A restaurant is not just a place you come to have a meal. It can be so much more.

A restaurant is a place you come to feed your soul while making memories with family and friends. Our Irish Pub theme embraces this philosophy while offering attentive, friendly service and a large, eclectic menu that’ll leave you wanting to return.

Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub décor is well appointed with beautiful wood, glass, and brass. This casual, cozy atmosphere oozes comfort and charm straight from Ireland. A gorgeous two-sided fireplace with handcrafted mantles boast two special Irish toasts!

While we could write a book on the history of Mavis Winkle’s, the best way to learn more about us is to stop in. Our delicious cuisine and Irish charm awaits!

About The Owners & The History of Mavis Winkle’s

Owners, Bill and Mary Jo Demopoulos, have a long history in food service that dates back to 1980 when they founded Toby’s Sandwich Shop in Garfield Heights, Ohio. At that time, the only local, quick service food operations were McDonald’s and Burger King.

They had the desire to bring better food to the market. The original menu offered a large assortment of made-to-order sandwiches, salads & soups. In 1983, the Demopoulos’ duplicated and expanded this operation to an office building at 4807 Rockside Road in Independence, Ohio. While still operating the thirty-five seat Independence location, in 1985 they grew the Garfield Heights location to a full service, 110 seat Restaurant & Sports Bar.

The menu grew considerably during the 1980’s and off-premise catering became a regular request. Guests will often refer to Toby’s (1980-1995) and the great food & service they had always received. For three seasons in the mid-1990’s, they also operated the concessions at The Glen Eagle Golf Course in Twinsburg, Ohio. After taking a vacation to Ireland in 1995, they decided to open a restaurant that would always remind them of the Emerald Isle.

Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub grew from a desire to offer a fun loving, casual dining experience, serving excellent food at moderate pricing. It needed to be a place where any age group could participate. The belief is that a restaurant is not just a place you come to have a meal, to fill the basic need to eat. Oh! No, it is much more! It is a place you come to feed your soul, as well.

The Irish Pub theme offers this philosophy. After having the opportunity to travel Ireland and experience the true meaning of what an Irish Pub is all about, Mary Jo and Bill Demopoulos decided to create that same experience, only much closer to home! Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub décor is well appointed with beautiful wood, glass, and brass.
